Rob Bertram (USAid)
  • Thank you very much all for your positive attitude and engagement
  • Good that we are leading on M&E, well done to the whole gorup
  • Great to hear about comms plans and thank you ILRI for leading on this.
  • Jumpstart is a wonderful way to get this project on its rails;
  • We have a lot of opportunities to align with CAADP etc.

Ken Dashiell (CIAT)
  • I will soon join IITA as the DDG partnerships
  • It's been a fantastic 4 days - we kept our energy up and enthusiasm and made a lot of new friends
  • What is this all about? We are here for people; this project is all for people. We may work on maize or livestock but our target group is 'the people'. I'm really excited to see the commitment of these people to use their knowledge and combine it to have an impact;
  • Our mission is to reduce poverty and improve food security;
  • Let's thank the Minister for the great start and focus he offered us;
  • Thank you to the USAid mission from Washington DC to come and support us - we are a team;
  • USAid mission staff: I look forward to cooperating with you folks;
  • I have to thank the Secretary Clinton and President Obama because it is their vision that has brought us here;
  • Our CRSP teams, you are contributing (and will continue) to this project.
  • CG centers, national partners, thank you for the expertise and experience you bring right into the field;

Irmgard Hoeschle-Zeledon (IITA)
  • We are at the end of the workshop
  • I was afraid about this workshop but it turned out to be good.
  • We have made good progress.
  • This workshop has made a lot
  • We benefitted a lot from the previous 2 workshops and also the teams that worked there will benefit from our work here;
  • We now have clarity on what we are doing and how we are doing. It wasn't clear at all 3 or 4 weeks ago.
  • I sense a lot of team spirit and excitement here. We start thinking beyond our institutional boundaries etc.
  • Our USAid team is also leaving with a positive feeling.
  • Reminders about the next steps: please check the wiki to keep up-to-date, right now it is our main communication tool;
  • Very soon we will launch the call for the jumpstart project and wait for your inputs;
  • The site selection is in good hands with the IFPRI team, we heard how it's going to evolve.
  • I would like to thank everybody for your active participation. It was a great workshop. We are all tired but it was worthwhile.
  • I have been thanked for this meeting and I initiated this process but I didn't do it on my own. But my colleagues here helped very much. Thank you very much to them.
  • Last but not least, thank you so much Peter and Ewen for your help on the facilitation and for your help on this.

What we liked:
  • External view;
  • Facilitation;
  • Participation;
  • Self interest was out of the window;
  • People were thoughtful, substantive;
  • Working groups predominating over presentations;
  • People tried to make decisions;
  • We were good;
  • Omission of the titles;
  • Minister's speech;
  • Live site selection;
  • Early wins - keep us focused / grounded;
What we didn't like so much:
  • More colleagues from Malawi and Zambia could have been with us;
  • Room temperature;
  • Not more partners with us;
  • Missing lots of researchers from SIMLESA;
  • Representation from farmers;
  • Background information about Tanzania;
  • Not enough private sector participation;
  • No aquaculture;
  • No road map for the meeting;
  • Not enough time for some group discussions.
